Brewing news Nigeria: Sona Breweries is to Invest N125bn in New Products creating hundreds of jobs

Sona Breweries, bottlers of Tigre Bock beer, has said it will invest N125 billion in their new product which would also be creating hundreds of jobs for Nigerians with it, AllAfrica posted on March 16.

Speaking during a public presentation of the brand to newsmen in Jos, the Marketing Manager of the organisation, Mr. Kola Shittu, said the company has been in the brewing business in Nigeria for some time and has an assured market share.

According to him, their company had been in the business of brewing with their market area spanning the entire northern region but with the introduction of Tigre Bock brand of lager beer, they hope to break into other regions very soon.

Shittu said they were in good business though mildly affected by the sharia legal code which exerts the same effect in the brewing industry so that they are not alone.

On how they have been managing, he said that they have the "mammy" market and military barracks where alcohol is sold freely while in some towns like Kano, the Sabongari area still makes up for what the Sharia code takes from them.

"Even before Sharia was officially introduced , we had been in business with other products. So we believe that people should be allowed freedom of choice of what they want. The entire northern region is our market with loyal customers.

"To be honest with you, we do distribute to sharia primary areas. In places like Zamfara and Kano, we distribute in Sabongari and military establishments. You do not put religion into business; we have to work to eat. We are going into the markets not confrontationally", he explained.
